We’re in week five of lockdown now and let’s just say the novelty of being stuck in the house 24/7 is wearing off a little. Here’s a light-hearted look at the things I wish I’d done before lockdown…
Got a haircut
I know I’m not the only one with the need-a-haircut itch. And considering the amount of shaven-headed dudes that keep popping up on my social media and Skype calls, it’s not a gender thing either. However, I’m making a pitch that this lack of haircut situation is worse for me, because I have a fringe. A fringe that is now in that awful in-between stage. Maybe I should just follow suite and shave it all off. There’s a UFC fighter called Rose Namajunas (aka Thug Rose) with a shaved head and she looks cool AF, so I could make it work. It could end up being the look of 2020. Maybe.
Learned how to cook
Everything is closed, even McDonald’s. I’ve not even had McDonald’s in ages but, just like all the people who were queuing out the door for it the day before the doors shut, I’ve never wanted it more. As someone who is pretty average at cooking, I’ve got serious envy of all the people who are getting stuck into baking banana bread and such like. Tins of beans and bagels just ain’t cutting it.
Went to the library
I haven’t been to the library in years, but this comes off the back of a conversation with my mum about two days after lockdown. There was me worrying that they, my parents, older and not good with technology, would be suffering from lack of access to trifles such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. Then my mum mentioned that she’d been to the library two days ago and got a stack of ten books to get through during lockdown. All of a sudden I was consumed with nostalgia for going to the library! It was something I used to do all the time when I was younger. Imagine, getting to walk out of somewhere with ten books to read for FREE? I’m making a point to start going again when this is over.
Picked up my monitor from work
So yeah… working on a laptop is not fun. I had a day off before we were all informed we were working from home for the foreseeable future and so I didn’t have a chance pick up my monitor, and so I’ve been working on a monitor for the last few weeks. Not having a mouse, struggling with a touch pad, and having to constantly move stuff documents around on my screen to view them is not fun.
Got some new gym gear
At the moment pretty much the only thing that’s keeping me sane is going out for a run a few times a week. The only thing is my workout gear leaves a lot to be desired. My trainers are so old that they’re literally falling apart – so much so that I’m worried I’m going to trip up on a loose part when I’m running. The other thing is my sports bra. Sports bra singular. Yeah, my capsule collection of sports bras seems to have now reduced to just one, which is also falling apart due to overuse. I know I can buy these things online but trainers and bras are definitely things you want to try on first!
